Leeds Young People's Film Festival

Back for its 11th year, the Leeds Young People's Film Festival will be running from the 29th March to the 9th April. And, where there's kids - there's cartoons! Plugging the inanimate void before BAF and LIFF come round again later in the year. As well as workshops and features for younger audiences there will be screenings of anime outings Mia et le Migou and Chocolate Underground, and a fabulous round up of Polish Animated shorts as part of Animation Sunday at the Hyde Park Picture House.

Mia and the Migoo
Friday 2nd April 11.00am

Fed up being away from her father, who is working on a construction site far from home, Mia decides to leave her village to be with him. Trekking through the vast and mysterious forest, Mia finds herself face-to-face with the Migoo, a strange but friendly creature who has to protect a powerful and important tree essential to the well being of the forest and environment.

Fern Gully: The Last Rainforest
Friday 2nd April 4pm

The original Avatar movie! Fern Gully is a rainforest home to a race of fairies who don’t believe that humans exist. Egged on by Batty, a wacky bat, Chrysta visits Mount Warning where she sees her first human Zak, and accidentally shrinks him down to her size. But there is trouble in store, for Zak is part of a logging team lead by the diabolical Hexxus who is there to cut down the forest. Zak, Crysta, Batty and friends must band together to defeat Hexxus and save Fern Gully.

Chocolate Underground
Saturday 3rd April, 7pm

The Good for You Party has won the election by promising health and happiness for all, but now they are in power they have announced the Prohibition law and chocolate and sweets and all things sugary are now illegal! Two boys, Huntley and Smudger, along with some friends, won’t accept this new law and, although it means risking capture by the robot enforcers and imprisonment, they begin to bootleg chocolate

60 Years of Polish Animation

In this collection of wonderful family films from Poland we get to see some of the best animated short stories from the last few decades. From the adventures of a lonely striped elephant to a farmer trying to outwit the Devil these wonderful, fun films will enthral the whole family.

Fantasia 2000

In this updated version of the original 1940 masterpiece Disney presents new animated interpretations of great classical music pieces. From the classic ‘Sorcerers Apprentice’ starring Mickey Mouse as the hapless wizard causing havoc when he relies on magic to do his chores to the ‘Pomp and Circumstance’ story where Donald Duck as Noah’s stressed assistant trying to get the animals onto the ark where there is a wonderful world of animation and music to captivate everyone.
